Cycling in Les Saintes Maries de la Mer

Starting from Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, different circuits are proposed to you with distances and landscapes all as different as each other. We will be able to give you plans when you come to our shop, and they are free of charge!

 

"Méjanes" circuit

Distance: 36 km round trip

Time: 6 hours

Period: From June to October

Type of ground: Dirty road on 2/3 of the course

Départure : East side of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, take the D85 parallel to the shop. This route is made of 3 km of road and 11 km of dirt road.

Attract : This route gives you the possibility of a full day in Camargue. Méjanes, as its name indicates in Provençal is the middle: the estate is located halfway between Saintes Maries de la Mer and Arles, on the edge of the Vaccarès pond. You will meet along this ride, several points of restoration. Before returning home, you can rest by taking a picturesque circuit with the little train of Méjanes which will make you discover the Camargue with its migratory birds, horses and bulls living in the marshes.

"Bac du Sauvage - Cacharel" circuit

Time: 4 hours

Départure : West of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, take the D38, after 6km on the left you will take the Bac du Sauvage, then follow the road, direction Aigues-Mortes. You will pass in front of the Judge mas. You arrive at the bridge of Sylvéréal, immediately after the bridge, you take the small road on the right which goes in the direction of the Astoin mas. At the height of the Petit Astouin, take the direction Pioch-Badet. In the hamlet of Pioch-Badet, at the crossroads follow the direction Les Saintes Maries de la Mer/Cacharel.

Attract : This circuit is accessible to all, it is practiced on asphalt roads. Along this circuit, you will have several points of restoration as well as very varied landscapes. To the west of the village, you will pedal along agricultural properties which will make you discover the different cultures of the Camargue, while to the east of the village, it will be landscapes of marshes and ponds with birds which are offered to you.

"La Gacholle" circuit

Distance: 24 km round trip

Time: 4 hours

Period: All year round

Départure : On the East side of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, after the Thalassotherapy center, there is only one way to go, take it. After 3km from your starting point, you can take La Digue à la Mer, situated between sea and marsh.

Attract : With this circuit, you will be on the edge of the Camargue National Reserve.

"Petite Camarge" circuit

Time: 3 hours

Départure : West of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, take the D38, after 6km on the left you will take the Bac du Sauvage, then follow the road, direction Aigues-Mortes. "Tour du vaccarès" circuit

Distance: 70 km

Time: 9 hours

Period: From June to October

Départure : West of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, take the D38, after 6km on the left you will take the Bac du Sauvage, then follow the road, direction Aigues-Mortes. "Beauduc" circuit

Distance: 38 km round trip

Time: 6hours

Period: From April to October

Type of ground: Dirt roads

Bike type: Montain bike essential

Level:2

Départure : Identical to La Gacholle but at the parking of la Comtesse, take a right at the runway and at the intersection of the Frangassier runway take another right towards Beauduc, at the return towards the Cabane du Frangassier and left towards Le Phare de la Gacholle.

Attract : With this route, you will be able to see the nesting places of the Flamingos.

Open to all, no need to be sporty

A very beautiful 15km cycle route open to all, taking the direction of Sylvéréal and crossing by Bac du Sauvage (Ferry).

Once you arrive at the Sylvéréal Bridge, you have 2 options:

  • Navigate for about 2 hours around the Sylvéral bridge before coming back to the bridge (Formula at 30 €)
  • Starting from Paty de la Trinité (Transfer by shuttle from the Sylvéréal bridge) for a descent of the Petit-Rhône river to the point of Sylvéréal for about 2 hours (Formula at 40 €)

The return to Les Saintes Maries de la Mer will be by the Cacharel road by 15km of bike.

La dique à la mer: 24 km round trip between sea and marshland

Méjanes: 36 km round trip between land and marshland

Bac du sauvage: 30 km on the edges of petit rhône

Average distance by bike: 25 km

Full day with 1 hour riding: 30€

Full day with 2 hours riding: 40€

Once you have taken possession of your bike, you will have the choice between three routes, depending on the place and time chosen for your horseback ride.

At the end, you will return with your bike by the Cacharel road.
